Intro to Rock Climbing.

This comprehensive introductory course is designed to equip you with the essential skills needed to climb indoors and outside with confidence! We cover the fundamentals of climbing, the kit you will need and how to use it safely.

  • We’ll begin the day at 8am with a coffee and a chance to get to know each other. This is the perfect time to chat through the day ahead—looking at the weather forecast, guidebooks, and how we plan our approach to a crag. You’ll get an insight into how climbers plan safe and enjoyable days out.

Once we arrive at the crag, we’ll take a look at what I typically bring with me when climbing—covering all the essential gear and the emergency kit that we hope we’ll never need. This helps you understand what’s important when heading outdoors.

Then it’s time to get climbing. I’ll demonstrate a range of key movement skills—like jamming, bridging, and using your feet effectively on rock. These are techniques that are hard to practise indoors, but essential for confident outdoor climbing. You’ll then get on the rope to try these out for yourself and begin to get a feel for the rock.

We’ll also cover how to safely belay a partner, and introduce the basics of removing and placing traditional gear. We’ll use crags with short walk-ins so we can spend as much time as possible learning and climbing.

The focus of this course is to give you a solid grounding in climbing outdoors. Whether you're totally new or making the leap from indoor walls, the aim is to build your confidence and skills in a supportive, practical setting.
