Lake District Mountain Guides – Terms & Conditions

We want your day in the mountains to be fun, safe, and straightforward. These Terms and Conditions explain what you can expect from us, and what we ask of you in return. By booking a guiding day or instructional course with us, you’re agreeing to everything outlined below.

1. Definitions

  • “LDMG”, “we”, “us” – Lake District Mountain Guides and any freelance guides working on our behalf.

  • “Guide” / “Instructor” – A qualified, insured freelance professional contracted by LDMG.

  • “Client”, “you”, “participant” – Any person booking or taking part in an activity.

  • “Activity” – Any guided rock climbing, scrambling or mountaineering session delivered by LDMG.

2. Inherent Risk & Client Acceptance

Rock climbing, scrambling and mountain activities take place in unpredictable natural environments and involve inherent and unavoidable risks, including the possibility of serious injury or death. By booking, you confirm that you understand and accept these risks and agree to participate voluntarily. While LDMG guides use professional skill and care to manage risk, risk cannot be removed entirely.

3. Duty of Care & Limitation of Liability

LDMG and its freelance guides will use reasonable skill and care in delivering activities.
LDMG is not liable for injury, loss or damage resulting from:

  • inherent risks of mountain activities

  • natural hazards such as loose rock

  • weather or environmental conditions

  • your actions or decisions

  • third-party actions

  • the condition or failure of your own equipment

4. Client Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • follow all instructions and safety briefings

  • behave responsibly and not endanger yourself or others

  • participate within your fitness and experience level

  • disclose relevant medical conditions or injuries

  • refrain from alcohol or drug use before or during activities

LDMG accepts no liability for incidents arising from ignoring instructions or unsafe behaviour.

5. Insurance

  • Clients are strongly advised to arrange insurance covering personal accident, rescue, medical treatment, equipment and cancellation.

  • LDMG does not check client insurance policies and is not responsible for any losses arising from lack of cover.

  • All freelance guides working for LDMG hold their own Public Liability and Professional Indemnity insurance. Freelance guides are independent contractors and not employees of LDMG.

6. Equipment

  • LDMG provides technical equipment where stated.

  • All supplied equipment is inspected and maintained in accordance with manufacturer guidance and industry best practice.

  • Clients may use their own equipment if approved by the guide.

  • Clients are responsible for loss or damage to LDMG equipment caused by misuse, negligence or failure to follow instructions.

7. Participation of Minors

Under-18s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or provide written parental consent. Parents/guardians accept these Terms & Conditions on behalf of the minor.

8. Changes Due to Conditions

Mountain weather and conditions may require changes for safety.
If unsafe conditions are identified before the activity begins, LDMG will offer either a full refund of guiding fees or an alternative date.
If conditions change during the activity, no refund will be available.
The guide’s decisions regarding safety and route choice are final.

9. Behaviour & Exclusion

LDMG may remove a participant from an activity if they:

  • behave dangerously

  • disregard instructions

  • are unfit to continue

  • pose a risk to themselves or others

No refund will be issued in these circumstances.

10. Cancellations

Client cancellations:

  • More than 4 weeks before: full refund

  • 3–4 weeks before: 50% refund

  • Less than 3 weeks before: no refund

LDMG cancellations:

If LDMG cancels due to safety, guide illness/injury or operational reasons, clients will receive either an alternative date or a full refund of guiding fees. LDMG is not responsible for travel, accommodation or other additional costs.

11. Payments

LDMG uses the WeTravel platform to manage bookings and payments.
By booking, you acknowledge that:

  • payments are processed securely through WeTravel

  • payment reminders may be sent automatically by the platform

  • instalment plans (if applicable) are managed in WeTravel

  • disputes or payment queries may be handled through WeTravel’s resolution process as well as directly with LDMG.

12. Events Beyond Our Control

LDMG is not liable for cancellations, delays or changes caused by circumstances outside our control, including severe weather, natural events, transport disruption, guide illness/injury or government restrictions.

13. Personal Property

LDMG accepts no responsibility for loss of or damage to personal belongings, including vehicles, phones or personal climbing equipment.

14. Media Use & Privacy

LDMG may take photos or videos during activities for use on our website or social media unless you request otherwise. Personal data is handled in accordance with UK GDPR.

15. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by English law. Any disputes will be handled in the courts of England.
