Lake District Mountain Guides Ltd is dedicated to providing quality climbing instruction and rock guiding across the Lake District and throughout the UK. Our experienced instructors and Mountain Guides are passionate about helping people challenge themselves, climb safely and enjoy unforgettable days in the mountains.

Bespoke guiding: your experience is fully tailored to you and your goals. We will be in contact with you before your booking to get to know you, your ambitions and to plan the day that you want.
Small ratio instructional courses: We run courses with small group ratios, a max of 2 clients to 1 instructor. This maximises your climbing time and ensures focused, personal coaching on every instructional course.
Our Guides: are all professional and experienced climbers, trained to guide and instruct using the best industry practices.
Local knowledge: We are based in the Lake District, we know the best crags, have climbed lots of classic routes, and know sheltered spots for when the weather takes a turn for the worst. We’ll find the perfect location and climb for your goals.

Hi, I'm James. Thanks for visiting Lake District Mountain Guides. I was born and bred in Leeds but have spent most of my life exploring the Lake District. It started as weekends away walking and scrambling, then climbing as a teenager, and I'm now based here full time. It's such a beautiful place to live and work, and I’m very lucky to be able to call it my home.
I've always loved being outdoors and in the mountains, so becoming a full-time climbing instructor and mountain guide after school felt like the natural path.
Since starting Lake District Mountain Guides, I've helped hundreds of people experience the beauty of the Lake District mountains through rock climbing, scrambling, and mountaineering. Whether you're after your first climbing course, rock guiding on the best routes in the Lakes, or a bespoke mountain guiding day out, I love helping people build real skills and confidence in the outdoors, and seeing that grow with every trip.
