Couch to Crib Goch
CLIMB ICONIC CRIB GOCH IN THIS 3 DAY INTRODUCTORY SCRAMBLING COURSE
Couch to Crib Goch
Our Couch to Crib Goch course is designed for beginners who want to discover scrambling and the outdoors, building the skills and confidence to safely take on one of the UK’s most iconic ridges. Over three days, you’ll develop solid movement, navigation, and decision-making skills, before putting everything into practice on a guided ascent of Crib Goch.
Our experienced guides will support you every step of the way — from understanding mountain weather and what to pack, through to safe scrambling techniques and essential navigation. By the end of the course, you’ll not only have completed Crib Goch, but also gained the knowledge to continue your own mountain adventures.
Is this for me?
This course is ideal for anyone new to scrambling or the mountains, with a reasonable level of fitness. No previous scrambling experience is required — we’ll start with the basics and build your skills progressively over the three days.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Introduction to Scrambling
We’ll meet at a local cafe in Snowdonia to get to know each other, look in detail at the weather forecast, and talk through what to wear and what to pack for a safe day in the mountains. From there, we’ll head up Y Gribin, a fine Grade 1 ridge that provides the perfect introduction to scrambling. Along the way, we’ll focus on good movement techniques, safe practice, and basic navigation skills.
Day 2 – Building Skills on Tryfan
On the second day we’ll take on the North Ridge of Tryfan, one of Snowdonia’s classic scrambles. This is a big mountain day that allows us to consolidate your movement skills on steeper terrain. We’ll also look at navigation in more depth, using both electronic devices and map-and-compass techniques, reinforcing the learning from Day 1.
Day 3 – The Ascent of Crib Goch
On the final day we’ll tackle Crib Goch, putting everything into practice. Using the skills and knowledge developed over the previous two days, we’ll make a safe and rewarding journey across this famous knife-edge ridge — a true highlight of any UK mountain experience.
